Musicians from the Netherlands, Chile, Canada and
Venezuela will attend, from Tuesday to Saturday, the 11th Drum Festival
2012 "Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam".
The opening ceremony will be held at the Mella Theater tonight, and it includes performances by prestigious artists, said musician Giraldo piloto, president of the organizing committee.
The women's orchestra Anacaona, the JJ Company, Habana Dance Compas, The National Folk Group, Yuleisis Greenidge, Yissy Garcia and Juana Veliz, described as the best Cuban female drummers, will open the festival.
Prior to the opening, U.S. drummer Johnatan Mover will give the master lecture "Drum and Rock" at 3:00 p.m. (18:00 GMT) in the Rio Club cabaret in the Havana sector of Miramar, where at 5:00 p.m., Dutch pianist Mike del Ferro will talk on piano, jazz, percussion and the promotion of musical works in today's world.
Sponsored by the Cuban Institute of Music and the Ignacio Piñeiro Center, a promoter of traditional music, the 11th edition of the Drum Festival will honor rumba musician Gregorio Hernandez, El Goyo (1936-2012). (Prensa Latina).
