Post-Doc Scientist post – neurosciences at UCB Pharma SA, Belgium

UCB is strengthening its research investment in the field of synaptic vesicle biology expertise with the objective of identifying and characterizing innovative targets for the treatment of neurological diseases. The successful candidate will implement new technologies to delineate mechanisms involved in protein trafficking, synaptogenesis, and activity-dependent synapse assembly and disassembly. Working in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment to further validate drug targets classes using relevant chemical and structural tools is another important component of this program.

The position requires a PhD level degree in the field of neurosciences, with innovative scientific accomplishment demonstrated by a solid record of publications.

Applicants should prove expertise in the field of biology and pharmacology with particular emphasis on cellular neurobiology, and cellular and molecular biology. Experience in proteomics, live-cell video microscopy, fluorescent microscopy methods, structural biology as well as in transporters and neurotransmitter release/uptake assays is a plus.

The applicant is required to have excellent verbal and written communication skills, competence in the English language and a strong motivation to contribute to improving the lives of patients through the creation of breakthrough medicines.

This position is based in Braine-l’ Alleud, Belgium. Positions are available for a period of 36 months with a starting date during 2011.
